Field Experience Q-1


·         Describe the school community.  How do the halls look? Sound? The school itself is extremely clean, the building was just renovated a few years ago so it is all new and updated.  There was very little chatter within the halls.  The student are not overly loud but are able to talk quietly when waiting in line. 

·         What is the noise level? Is it a happy sound? Like in the previous question, the noise level is soft but very happy and controlled.   

·         Are there any displays? Each grade level had their own décor for the specific holiday such as Valentine’s Day.  The rest of the halls in general were very clean with plants and boards for future student art/displays.

·         What is the library, gym, music room and art room like?

I was not in the library, music or art room; there are specific teachers for these separate instruction which give the primary teacher time to catch up on any other classroom tasks.  I was able to go into the gyms, newly renovated, very clean but both on the small side.  It is mainly used for small assemblies and lunch time for the students.

·         How much pride is taken in the overall school appearance?  Between the inside and outside of the school, the amount of pride was very relevant by the teachers and staff.

·         Is the principal easy to talk with? I was not able to talk with the principal but I did speak with the assistant superintendent of schools here at the Osage School.  This was actually an eye opening experience because I was able to talk with not only other teachers but I was able to see that there are many other levels of the school that most of us do not think about.  She was a very nice woman and my teacher said I made a very good impression so that is awesome! 

·         How are the school secretaries?  The secretary I spoke with was very happy and extremely helpful.  I was fortunate enough to have lunch with one of the secretaries, she was very easy to talk with and we laughed throughout the whole lunch.  Do they make a good first impression?   Most definitely made a good first impression!

EDUC 337 Week # 4

Hello group!      I really wish I would have known we were going to use this particular subject for our blog post because I have one heck of a "I did not get my way" story.  I will start in 2012 when I got out of the Marine Corps, I served 13 years, took that summer off to relax and hang out with my son.  I started my college adventure that fall, I loaded up on classes and pushed through to complete my associates degree after four semesters.  I had my daughter in January of 2014 so I was only in one class for that spring semester but was able to push through to more courses that summer and fall.  Spring of 2015, I was almost finished with my education courses I needed but this is when everything fell apart.      I was rocking and rolling toward my bachelors degree and finishing all of my schooling, so excited and could not wait to start teaching.  It all changed that Mother's day with a phone call from my mother in law (Linda), she decided that day she was going to sle

Class Reflection #1

Hello class! I enjoyed meeting everyone new tonight and those of you that were in previous classes.  I also enjoyed hearing about everyone's favorite teacher.  Most of the class definitely has had some very positive individuals that have helped to guide them into teaching or had a very positive role model.  I think it is awesome to have some of the same experiences as I have had throughout my college courses.  It is fun to hear everyone's adventures!

EDUC 337 Post # 3

Hello group!      As always, I enjoyed class tonight!  By going over word walls and having a quick thought on creating a lesson plan really got my mind going.  I really enjoyed that because it was a quick learning tool that opened my eyes to very different words and how to use them in a classroom.       Creating a mini lesson plan about a writing lesson almost blew my mind though!  I felt like we needed about 15 more minutes but I was able to learn a lot about thinking quickly on my feet about different teaching ideas used during this assignment.       Unfortunately, technology was not our friend last night so the last portion of class was pretty confusing so I plan on going back over the power point to make sure I do not miss out on anything.  I think I have my unit lessons planned in my head, I have started my 100 questions and I hope to start/finish a lot this weekend.  We will see.  :-) *You all may be getting a bit tired of hearing/reading about my 4 year old but I am really
